[ Norton pressed a hand to the side of his head as he awoke from his sudden nap. As far as he could tell from the distant light at the end of the tunnel, it must have been morning.
Waking up to riches would have been more thrilling if he hadn't crept into the treasure hoard the night before... And fell asleep as he was trying to line his pockets with some of that loot. He still had a purple gemstone clutched in his hand and a string of pearls dangling off his wrist. A faint nervousness crept up inside him as he slowly shook off his grogginess. Did anyone see him? He didn't see anyone enter the room. It was just him, the treasures, and the bird lying on top of... ]
Shit! [ He gritted his teeth in some vain attempt to remain quiet as he dropped the gem and sprang to his feet. That was Pericles, wasn't it? Norton never liked that parrot, but if the parrot's dead then there's a good chance he might be framed!
Norton tried his best to remain quiet as he rushed twoards the small pile he thought he saw Pericles lying on. He shouldn't be too far, dead or alive... ]
[No, not just his spine-about everything but his beak and eyes hurt. His head, his neck, his wings-even his legs hurt thanks to a poorly positioned ruby that managed to uncomfortably poke into both of his legs.
This place would make him uncomfortable, alright. Just not enough for to keep him conscious.
After getting himself back on his feet, a quick scan of the cave proved he wasn't alone, but the company was...less than savory, as far as the parrot was concerned.]
Herr Campbell. I am assuming we hat similar ideas to try and stay awake for ze night?
[He eyes the pearls hanging from the man's wrist.]
Norton follows the bird's gaze to his wrist- ] Gh! [ And quickly tries to shake the pearls off onto a nearby pile. Crap, how is he gonna explain this? He looks up at the bird. ]
I... Guess that trick didn't work out. [ He might be able to sidestep the issue, but that bird's pretty smart. Think, Norton, think... ]
At least we know neither of us tried to kill anyone. I think.
[The small bird closes his eyes for a moment as he sighs.]
Herr Campbell, if you have an interest in taking as many riches from zis cave physically possible, I am not about to be the vone to stop you.
[Judge you, yes, but he has no interest in stopping anyone’s attempts to rob their captor.]
Zis does seem to suggest bos of our innocence, yes. It woult be vone thing to sleep upon a bench or one the ground, but a pile of treasure is...not the most comfortable.
[At least he doesn’t seem to care too much, given how quick his gaze leaves the mining man and goes over the rest of the place.]
Eizer a spell was able to put us to sleep, or Ze Piper has access to some type of sleeping gas. Considering our circumstances, however, I believe ze answer is the former.
Most certainly. Unless vone gets purely sadistic satisfaction from a situation such as this, and truly has nosing better to do in life, there has to be some ulterior reasoning for this ”game” existing.
Unfortunately, figuring out zese answers will likely have to vait. I have a feeling there are more urgent sings to investigate today.

[ It's a lie, a sharp mind would be able to easily guess, but getting caught in the act is enough to make him feel sheepish. ]
Yeah... Pretty sure that bastard or his friends knocked us out somehow... How else would you explain it?

[ Thank god. Now let's move along. ]
Yeah, pretty sure it's one of those things he does with that damn flute.

If he truly has powers comparable to his namesake, unvilling unconsciousness does not sound unbelievable.
The true question, at zis moment, is whezer or not zis Friday vill be like the last.

[Though, in all honesty, this is a time where Norton’s guess is as good as his.]
